About Us

Meet Beyond Design Collective

Beyond Design Collective was founded by Australian registered architects and architectural educators with experience across university teaching and professional practice.
We’ve worked with students, graduates, and early-career architects for many years, and we’ve seen the same gap appear again and again: the space between architectural education and architectural registration.

Design school teaches you how to think creatively. Practice teaches you how to deliver projects.
But registration asks something different—professional judgement, responsibility, and an understanding of how architecture operates as a regulated profession.

Beyond Design Collective exists to bridge that gap.
Our work focuses on translating professional frameworks, expectations, and real-world practice into clear, practical guidance—so emerging architects can prepare earlier, with confidence and clarity.

About the Series

Pathway to Registration is a two-part series developed to support architecture students, graduates, and registration candidates through the Architectural Practice Examination (APE).

Bringing together what is often scattered across official documents, websites, forums, and courses, the series provides a structured and practical resource covering both knowledge and performance.

The Study Guide explains the APE competency framework in plain language and connects work experience to registration requirements, while Mastering the APE Interview focuses on structured practice—offering mock questions, answering strategies, and reference responses aligned with the National Standard of Competency.

More than a set of exam resources, Pathway to Registration is a map of the registration journey—helping candidates understand not just how to pass, but how professional responsibility, experience, and judgement come together in real architectural practice.
